Autumn 2011

“Coastal Wales has been named the "best region on Earth" to visit next year by a travel guide.

The nation's coastline is highlighted in the Lonely Planet's Best in Travel 2012 guide to the best places to go over the next 12 months.”  (BBC News 28th October 2011)

Lonely Planet's Tom Hall explained: "These are some of Lonely Planet's must-see spots for 2012, either because they have something special going on next year, there's a lot of buzz about the place, or because we are tipping it as an up-and-coming spot that you should visit, before the crowds get there."

"How better to truly appreciate the shape - and soul - of a nation?" the annual guide asks of the coastal path.”

“The region comes out top because of its wildlife, great surf, castles and fantastic spots.”

“Anybody who has explored the coast of Wales will know it’s as good as anything on the planet.” Simon Calder Travel Editor of The Independent

As Autumn begins it seems a good time to plan that late Winter early Spring break to lift the gloom and lighten the prospects as we hear each news bulletin.  Our short breaks (from £825 – full details on our website www.park-hall.co.uk ) are exceptional value – not just our view but those of our guests.

It has been a very busy Summer and we have a busy Autumn ahead with only two weekends left available before Christmas.  In 2012 we are already booked for much of August and July so if you are thinking of a summer holiday do please get in touch soon.  Easter has proved popular and both main weeks are booked.  We have several bookings through May and June but there are still weekends and some weeks available please contact us for the latest availability.

Outside everything looks very autumnal and time has been spent gathering up the leaves.  We have planted out our winter bedding plants and more bulbs.  We have also just been looking through the seed catalogue planning for next summer’s bedding – hopefully the weather will ensure another colourful summer.  It certainly is one year ends and the next begins! It will soon be time to dig out the decorations as we have the house decorated for the festive season throughout December.

As the nights lengthen the night sky can be amazing on clear starlit nights offering marvellous opportunities for all the budding astronomers.  The night sky is an amazing sight and with the lack of streetlights you really could not wish for a better view of the constellations.  You just need to know what you are looking for!

We continue to enjoy the very varied wildlife.  The house martins only left at the beginning of October. Seal watching at Cwmtydu has been variable a number of guests took advantage of the boat trips from Newquay and came back with several reports of dolphins.  On a culinary note it has been a particularly good year for soft fruit and berries with the blackberries and sloes looking particularly good.

The Coastal Path has proved very popular with guests who speak of the amazing views and several spotted dolphins out in the bay. In his latest series on BBC Wales Iolo Williams clearly agrees with Lonely Planets view as he looks along the coast and down on Cwmtydu from the Coastal Path and comments “I can say nothing to add to that” Obviously we would agree and recommend you come and see for yourself!

Finally we would like to thank all our guests who have purchased the post cards of Park Hall and contributed a total of £85 to Marie Curie Cancer Care.

If you are thinking of making a booking do please get in touch sooner rather than later to avoid disappointment.
